The Federal Government of Nigeria has lauded the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, expressing hope that it will alleviate civilian suffering in Gaza.
In a statement released on Monday by Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria highlighted the significance of the agreement, which brings relief to families of Israeli hostages held in Gaza and Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons.
The ceasefire, achieved after 15 months of conflict, paves the way for the delivery of critical humanitarian aid to the affected region.
The Federal Government also acknowledged the roles of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States in mediating the peace deal and serving as guarantors for its implementation.
Nigeria urged all parties involved to maintain the momentum and work diligently towards the successful execution of the agreement’s subsequent phases.
The government reaffirmed its support for a two-state solution as the foundation for long-term peace in the region.
