The Federal Government of Nigeria and Brazil’s Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) have formalised an agreement to boost fertiliser production, hybrid seed technology, and agricultural finance through private-sector collaboration.
The MoU, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS), Temitope Fashedemi, and FGV President Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, took place in Rio de Janeiro during the G20 Leaders’ Summit.
As part of the Green Imperative Project (GIP) – a $1.2 billion initiative launched in 2018 – the partnership aims to modernise Nigeria’s agricultural sector with advanced Brazilian expertise.
Over the next five years, it plans to support agribusinesses in Nigeria’s 774 local government areas with technical and financial resources, driving sustainable development and food security.
The initiative, supported by Deutsche Bank, is expected to attract $4.3 billion in private-sector investment.
Senior Nigerian and FGV officials were present at the signing.
