Nigeria’s national power grid has collapsed for the second time in three days, plunging several regions into darkness as power generation dropped to zero at 11:30 a.m., according to the Nigerian System Operator’s portal.
Electricity distribution companies across the country confirmed the outage on their social media platforms.
The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC), which serves parts of Lagos, acknowledged the blackout, noting efforts were underway with key partners to restore power.
Similarly, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDP) alerted customers to the possible “system failure” while working with partners for a swift recovery.
The Jos Electricity Distribution Company also reported an outage affecting their states, citing grid supply loss at 11:28 a.m.
Although the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to issue a statement on Thursday’s incident, it previously attributed Tuesday’s blackout to “a series of lines and generators trippings.”
This frequent grid instability has raised concerns, with the Federal Government citing poor maintenance, outdated equipment, and insufficient infrastructure as underlying issues.
