Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu and France’s President Emmanuel Macron have signed two crucial agreements to boost infrastructure development and to ensure a long-term agriculture and food security.
The signing occurred during an economic forum at the Élysée Palace in Paris, part of Tinubu’s three-day state visit.
Key stakeholders, including business leaders and top officials, attended the event.
Among the agreements, the United Bank for Africa (UBA) secured approval to begin operations in Paris, signed by UBA Chairman Tony Elumelu and France’s Minister of Economy, Antoine Armand.
Zenith Bank also launched its Paris branch.
A €300m financial and technical assistance package was unveiled, focusing on sectors such as healthcare, transportation, agriculture, renewable energy, and education.
Nigeria’s Finance Minister, Wale Edun, and Mr. Armand signed a Letter of Intent reinforcing these commitments.
A second Letter of Intent was signed between Edun and Rémi Rioux, CEO of the French Development Agency (AFD), pledging support for Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda reforms.
The agreement highlights investments in urban infrastructure, education, food security, and renewable energy.
