On Monday evening, Nigeria experienced another national grid collapse, leaving millions without electricity.
According to reports from various electricity distribution companies (DisCos), the collapse occurred around 6:48 p.m., affecting power supply across the country.
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), and Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company were among the first to notify their customers of the outage via social media and assured them that efforts were being made to restore power.
This incident is part of a recurring problem, as the national grid has collapsed multiple times this year, including on February 4, March 28, April 15, July 6, and August 5.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has yet to comment on this latest collapse.
However, in April, Nafisat Ali, the Executive Director of TCN’s Independent System Operator (ISO) department, mentioned that the causes of grid failures in Nigeria span across the power sector, including generation, transmission, and distribution issues, such as inadequate gas supply and poor coordination of power plants.
Nigerians across the country are in expectation of positive updates on the restoration of electricity, with power companies working with relevant stakeholders to stabilise the grid.
