In a strategic move to bolster international partnerships, Japan’s Foreign Minister, Miss Kamikawa Yoko, and Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, have taken a significant step towards deepening bilateral relations.
They had the meeting on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development( TICAD) Ministerial Meeting in Tokyo.
The bottom-line of the meeting focused on enhancing cooperation in various sectors, particularly business and economic relations.
This was referred to a press statement issued by the Third Secretary, Culture and Information/General/ Protocol Section, Embassy of Japan in Nigeria, Shimada Mami.
Yoko expressed her appreciation for the constructive dialogues that took place during her visit to Nigeria in April this year.
She emphasised Japan’s interest in fostering stronger economic ties, including support for start-ups, as part of a broader effort to enhance the partnership between the two nations.
During her visit to Nigeria, Yoko observed the challenges faced by internally displaced women, leading her to advocate for initiatives grounded in the Women, Peace, and Security framework.
She reiterated Japan’s commitment to collaborating with Nigeria to address global issues, praising Nigeria’s leadership in Africa and its shared democratic values.
In response, Ambassador Tuggar acknowledged the progress made through the TICAD process and expressed gratitude for Japan’s ongoing support.
The meeting concluded with both ministers reaffirming their commitment to deepening Japan-Nigeria relations as they prepare for the upcoming TICAD 9, set to take place next year.
