Senator Remi Tinubu, wife of President Bola Tinubu, joined the global community on Monday to commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, marking the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence.
In a statement, Remi Tinubu acknowledged the progress Nigeria has made but highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by many women and girls, especially in rural areas, who remain trapped in cycles of violence and inequality.
She emphasised the need for collective action, including timely prosecution of perpetrators and increased support for victims.
Remi Tinubu also underscored the importance of formal education for the girl child, calling it crucial for empowering them to make informed choices.
The senator urged everyone to use this period to challenge harmful behaviours and work toward a society where all individuals can live free from violence.
