The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is set to introduce a multi-purpose biometric ID card, designed to improve identity verification and support social and economic initiatives.

NIMC Director General, Dr Abisoye Coker-Odusote, announced this during a media briefing in Abuja, highlighting the collaboration with the Nigerian Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS).

The card will feature biometric fingerprint authentication, offline and online functionality, and integrated financial tools, including digital tokens and wallet capabilities.

Dr Coker-Odusote stated that the card aims to address challenges in government intervention programmes by securely identifying beneficiaries.

This card, combining identity verification and financial access, is expected to revolutionise service delivery nationwide.
