The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the Federal Government to withdraw the controversial tax bills currently before the National Assembly, citing concerns over workers’ welfare.

In his New Year message, NLC President Joe Ajaero emphasized the importance of transparency, inclusivity, and honesty in government policies.

Ajaero urged the government to prioritize the well-being of the people, stressing the need for policies that provide better access to food, healthcare, housing, education, and security.

He also advocated for a new national tax law created through a national dialogue to ensure broader support and effectiveness.

He further insisted that the government must uphold the 2024 National Minimum Wage Act and engage in a wage review to address the impact of recent economic policies.

The NLC President emphasised the need for industrial peace, condemning the use of violence in labor engagements, and reaffirmed the NLC’s commitment to fostering national progress and safeguarding workers’ rights.

Ajaero concluded by calling for unity in building a Nigeria that prioritizes workers’ welfare and ensures prosperity for all citizens.
