The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced that petrol obtained from the Dangote Refinery will be sold at prices exceeding N1,000 per litre in the northern regions of Nigeria.
NNPC spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, revealed this on Monday in a circular titled, ‘ NNPC Ltd Releases Estimated Pump Prices of PMS from Dangote Refinery Based on September 2024 Pricing’.
Referencing the circular, petrol prices could reach as high N1,019 per litre in Borno State, while Abuja, Sokoto, and Kano could see prices around N999.22 per litre.
In the southern regions, such as Oyo and Rivers States, the price is expected to be N960 per litre, with the lowest price of N950 per litre in Lagos and its surrounding areas.
Soneye clarified that under the Petroleum Industry Act, petrol prices are determined through direct negotiations and are not set by the government.
The NNPC confirmed that the petrol loaded from the Dangote Refinery on Sunday was paid for in US dollars, with naira-based transactions scheduled to begin on October 1, 2024.
The NNPC also indicated that any potential discounts from Dangote Refinery would be passed directly to the public.
This announcement follows Dangote Group’s earlier denial of claims that it sold petrol to NNPC at N898 per litre but has yet to release its official pricing.
