Corps members across Nigeria will begin receiving an increased monthly allowance of N77,000 starting in March 2025, according to an announcement by the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu.
During an interactive session with corps members in Abuja, the NYSC boss reassured them that the government remains committed to enhancing their welfare. He encouraged them to remain focused and disciplined, emphasising that their contributions to national development are highly valued.
The pay rise aligns with the recent adjustment in Nigeria’s minimum wage to N70,000, which was approved by President Bola Tinubu in July 2024. Following this, the NYSC received official confirmation of the new allowance in a letter dated September 25, 2024, from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, signed by its chairman, Ekpo Nta.
Brigadier General Nafiu assured corps members that there would be no delays or setbacks in the implementation of the new stipend.
“Come March, you will all receive N77,000 as your monthly allowance. The NYSC maintains transparency in its processes, and every corps member will be duly paid,” he stated.
He also highlighted the NYSC’s role in fostering unity and building future leaders, urging corps members to take advantage of the platform to develop essential skills and contribute meaningfully to society.
Corps member Zaka Deborah Alheri, speaking on behalf of her colleagues, expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as a huge relief that would ease financial burdens during their service year.
