Mudashiru Obasa has been re-elected as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, regaining the position he lost seven weeks ago in a heated leadership dispute. His return follows the resignation of Mojisola Meranda, who took over after his January 2025 removal.
The crisis began when a majority of lawmakers ousted Obasa, citing misconduct. However, he rejected the decision, arguing that due process was not followed. Tensions escalated, with security clashes at the Assembly complex and lawmakers divided in loyalty between Obasa and Meranda.
Despite strong opposition, Obasa re-entered the Assembly under heavy security on February 27, asserting his claim to the position. His re-election on March 3, 2025, marks a shift in the power struggle, bringing him back to lead the 40-member House once again.
