Federal pensioners under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) have appealed to the government to settle outstanding gratuities and pension increments owed since March 2023.
In a letter to the Coordinating Minister of Finance and National Economy, Wale Edun, the retirees expressed frustration over unfulfilled promises despite previous protests, including a rally at the Ministry of Finance on November 12.
Despite assurances, the pensioners lamented that their pensions remain unpaid.
They also demand the implementation of unpaid pension increments, including a 15% rise from 2007, a 33% increase from 2010, and the recent 20–28% adjustment in 2024.
The union has called for a state of emergency in the CPS sector, urging the government to clear all liabilities by December 16, 2024.
The pensioners warned of a mass occupation of federal offices, including the Ministry of Finance and the Accountant General’s Office, if the government fails to meet their demands by December 16.
