President Bola Tinubu has granted approval for the start of the 2024 National Honours Award to recognise Nigerians and international individuals who have made significant contributions to the country’s development.
This was announced by the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Mr. Zaphaniah Jisalo, during a meeting with the ministry’s management staff in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to Jisalo, the Federal Government aims to honour citizens who have excelled in various fields. He emphasized that the nomination process for the awards is free, urging the public to avoid paying for national honours.
The minister further clarified that the public should look out for official calls for nominations, encouraging the submission of names of those who have positively impacted the nation and its people. He cited the National Honours Award Act of 2004, which has been in effect since 1963, as the legal framework for the awards.
