President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Remi Tinubu are en route to Abuja after attending the G-20 Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The President, who departed from Galeão Air Force Base on Saturday morning, is scheduled to arrive at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by 10 p.m.
During his participation at the summit, President Tinubu endorsed a global alliance aimed at addressing hunger and poverty, emphasising Nigeria’s struggles with out-of-school children and the country’s need for economic reforms.
In a significant bilateral meeting with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Tinubu discussed Nigeria’s tax reform strategies, seeking international support for sustainable educational and poverty alleviation programs.
“We know that education is a vital tool in combating hunger and poverty. That’s why we are focusing on initiatives to keep children in school while working on expanding the economy’s tax base for inclusive growth,” Tinubu remarked.
Accompanying the President was a high-level delegation that included Nigeria’s Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Livestock Development, and Arts, Tourism, Culture, and Creativity.
The G-20, which consists of 19 member nations, including the United States, the United Kingdom, China, India, and the European Union, focuses on addressing global economic and development issues.
