The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions has directed the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, to appear before it next week over allegations that some senior officers have remained in service beyond their official retirement dates.

According to Chook Oko, media head of the committee, the petition, filed by Obasi-Pherson Help Foundation, alleges that certain Assistant Comptrollers and Comptrollers, including Imam, Umar, Egwu, Awe, Fatia, and Faith, have overstayed their tenure in defiance of regulations.

Committee chairman Mike Etaba stressed that the Customs CG must provide clarity, stating, “The public has the right to know the facts of this case. We are committed to ensuring that government agencies function with integrity, especially when youth unemployment is a pressing issue.”

He further assured that the probe would be handled fairly, “This is not about taking sides; it’s about upholding due process and accountability in public service.”
