The House of Representatives has denied allegations that lawmakers solicited bribes from Vice-Chancellors in exchange for budget approvals.

Addressing the claims on Wednesday, House spokesperson Akin Rotimi dismissed the accusations as an attempt to discredit the legislature. He stressed that the budget process is transparent and follows constitutional guidelines.

Rotimi also criticised some university administrators for failing to defend their budget allocations, stating that several institutions have pending audit queries yet to be addressed. He accused certain officials of using false narratives to evade scrutiny.

Additionally, the House faulted the media outlet that published the report, calling out its lack of due diligence in verifying the claims before publication.

Reaffirming its commitment to accountability, the House urged anyone with concrete evidence of misconduct to present it to the relevant authorities.
