Concerned by the rising cases of gender-based violence and delayed justice for victims, the House of Representatives has called for urgent judicial reforms to fast-track homicide and femicide cases.

During a plenary session, lawmakers highlighted the slow pace of legal proceedings as a major factor contributing to the prevalence of gender-based crimes. Citing unresolved cases of murdered women, they stressed the need for a legal framework that prioritises such cases to ensure swift justice and deter future occurrences.

As part of the proposed reforms, the House recommended the establishment of specialised court divisions dedicated to handling homicide cases, arguing that this would ease judicial congestion and restore public confidence in the justice system.

Additionally, the legislators urged law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts in investigating and prosecuting gender-based violence cases without undue delays.
