Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving local governance and service delivery across the state.

Speaking at the 2025 Local Government Summit hosted by the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, Sanwo-Olu emphasised that Local Governments (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) are essential to the development process.

Represented by Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the governor described local governments as the foundation of governance, with a responsibility to deliver people-centered services.

He stressed the need for inclusive governance that prioritises community participation and efficient service delivery.

The summit, which served as a platform for reflection and the exchange of best practices, urged participants to focus on actionable outcomes that will enhance grassroots governance and rebuild public trust in local authorities.

Former Lagos State Local Government Service Commission Chairman, Babatunde Rotinwa, called for strategic reforms, improved funding, and citizen engagement to drive change.

Rotinwa highlighted the need to address key challenges such as inadequate manpower, political interference, and inefficient resource management.

He proposed that prioritising accountability, infrastructure sustainability, and better community engagement could pave the way for stronger governance and service delivery.

Hon. Kamal Bayewu, current Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, noted that the summit offered valuable insights into how grassroots governance can be redefined as a cornerstone for sustainable development in Lagos State.
