Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a 30% reduction in fares for the Red Line rail system, lowering the cost from ₦1,500 to ₦1,000.

The decision, unveiled during the commissioning of the Abule Egba Bus Terminal on Tuesday, intends to make public transportation more accessible and affordable for Lagosians.

Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing the state’s transport network, highlighting ongoing and future rail projects. He disclosed plans for the Green Line, stretching 68 kilometres from Marina to Lekki Free Zone, and the Purple Line, a 60-kilometre route from Ogun State’s Redemption Camp to the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Additionally, the governor announced that new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric buses would arrive by the third quarter of 2025 to expand the state’s bus fleet and reduce commuter waiting times.
