Schools across several Nigerian states, including Lagos, Ogun, Kano, Delta, and Jigawa, are set to resume for the second term on Monday, January 6, 2025, after the Christmas and New Year break.
In Kano, the state government had previously set January 5 for the resumption of boarding students, while day school pupils will return on Monday.
The government has urged parents to adhere to the schedule and warned that disciplinary action will be taken against students who fail to resume on time.
Similarly, Delta State has directed all schools to resume on January 6, with monitoring teams in place to ensure that teachers and school heads comply with the directive.
Jigawa has also set the same resumption date for both public and private schools, with boarding students returning on January 5.
In contrast, the Federal Government has pushed back the resumption date for unity schools nationwide to January 12, 2025, due to ongoing renovation work in many of the schools.
Despite the upbeat mood among teachers, pupils, and parents, rising costs have been a concern.
Some parents, like Mr. Tunbosun Esho and Mrs. Nafisat Bakare, have expressed difficulty in balancing the financial burden of tuition, transportation, and other school-related expenses.
As schools prepare for the new term, school officials, like Offsprings Ilorin Head of School Alli-Oluwafuyi Lateefat, have highlighted the importance of collaboration between schools, parents, and students to foster an environment conducive to academic success.
