Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a move confirmed by the Senate following his resignation from the opposition party.

Nwoko attributed his departure to the internal crisis and instability within the PDP.

He also claimed that Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and former governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, sidelined him, limiting his ability to function effectively within the party.

His defection was met with loud cheers as he was escorted to the majority wing of the Upper Chamber, according to reports from Channels TV.

Beyond switching parties, Nwoko, in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, urged the Senate to set up an ad hoc committee to investigate the PDP’s internal crisis.

He stressed the importance of a strong opposition to maintain a balanced democracy in Nigeria.
