Senate Rejects Claims of Arrest Plot by Senator Natasha

The Nigerian Senate has distanced itself from allegations by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who claimed she was being targeted for arrest upon returning from an international parliamentary event in New York.

Senate spokesperson Adeyemi Adaramodu dismissed her statements, asserting that neither Senate President Godswill Akpabio nor the legislative body had any reason to pursue her. He suggested that her claims were a deliberate attempt to stir controversy.

“She’s looking for her lost content creation needle in a haystack.”

Akpoti-Uduaghan, despite her suspension, had attended the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) event and later alleged that Nigerian officials attempted to “remove” her from the venue following her speech. She further claimed she was warned of a planned arrest upon her return to Abuja.

Responding to her allegations, Adaramodu stated that the senator’s concerns were likely a result of her controversial remarks made at the IPU. He said, “If she’s troubled by her own words against Nigeria, the Senate is not involved in her personal issues.”

Akpoti-Uduaghan had also mentioned in a recent interview that her attendance at the IPU event was in line with her registration, and that she had been aided by international parliamentarians after the alleged evacuation attempt by Nigerian officials at the UN.
