The Senate reconvened on Tuesday after a two-week recess, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio commending lawmakers for their dedication during the 2025 budget defence sessions.

Following President Bola Tinubu’s approval of bills establishing regional development commissions, the Senate adjusted its leadership structure.

Senator Babangida Hussaini and Senator Muntari Dandutse were appointed to head the North West Development Commission, while Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Senator Kenneth Eze will oversee the South East Development Commission.

Similarly, Senator Titus Zam and Senator Isa Jibrin were named as leaders of the North Central Development Commission.

Joel Thomas assumes leadership of the Local Content Committee, and Victor Umeh now heads the National Population and NIMC Committee.

In addition, the Senate extended condolences over the passing of former Deputy Majority Whip Oriyomi Onanuga, who died on January 15.

Lawmakers observed a minute of silence in her honour before adjourning the session.
