Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s complaint to the United Nations Inter-Parliamentary Conference over her suspension has continued to stir reactions, as the Kogi lawmaker sought international intervention, alleging injustice against her.

In response, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) assured her that it would review the case after hearing from all parties involved. Meanwhile, the Nigerian Senate, through a letter from Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, refuted claims that her suspension was linked to sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The letter, read by Honorable Kafilat Ogbara at the conference, asserted that Natasha was suspended for “gross misconduct and disregard for Senate Standing Orders.”

Despite this, Ogbara called for a thorough investigation into Natasha’s allegations against Akpabio. The senator was suspended last week after submitting a petition accusing Akpabio of sexual harassment—a claim the Senate dismissed before proceeding with her suspension.

Natasha has vowed to continue her fight against what she describes as injustice, while Akpabio has denied the allegations. The dispute between both lawmakers dates back to previous confrontations in the Senate, including a public exchange in July 2024, for which Akpabio later apologised.

As debates over her suspension persist, the focus remains on how both the Nigerian Senate and the IPU will handle the matter.
