The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to investigate the alleged mismanagement and disappearance of over N57 billion in the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
In a letter dated November 23, 2024, SERAP referenced findings from the 2021 Auditor-General’s report, which highlighted discrepancies in the ministry’s financial activities.
These include N54.63 billion in unpaid stipends for N-Power volunteers, N2.6 billion allegedly diverted from the COVID-19 school feeding programme, and other unaccounted expenditures.
SERAP called for immediate action, asking the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and anti-corruption agencies to recover the funds and prosecute those involved.
The letter stressed the need for accountability and transparency in public resource management.
The organisation also reiterated its stance on reducing federal borrowing to address Nigeria’s debt crisis.
