The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has called on Mele Kyari, the Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), to account for over ₦825 billion and $2.5 billion allegedly missing from funds allocated for refinery rehabilitation and other oil revenues.
Citing the 2021 Auditor-General’s report, SERAP alleged that the funds were mismanaged and called for the prosecution of those responsible.
The organisation also urged Kyari to formally invite former President Olusegun Obasanjo to inspect Nigeria’s refineries, alongside officials from the EFCC and ICPC, to ensure transparency.
The report detailed concerns over unexplained deductions, unpaid royalties, and funds diverted from crude oil sales, which it claims have worsened Nigeria’s economic challenges.
SERAP warned of legal action if no steps are taken within seven days to recover the missing funds and hold those responsible accountable.
