Nigerian artists had a successful and dominant 2023 and this reflected on the end-of-the-year charts released by digital streaming platforms e.g. Spotify and entertainment news outlets.
The recent announcement by the digital streaming giants, Spotify showed how dominant Nigerian artists had been for the entirety of the year 2023 as Nigerian artists made their appearance on the best Afrobeats, RnB and Hip Hop global charts.
Spotify revealed the best Afrobeats songs in 2023 with Davido’s Unavailable holding the top spot at number one. The list saw Nigerian artists hold a total of three spots in the top five list released by the establishment.
Asake’s Basquiat held the number three spot with Omha Lay’s Soso coming in at number four on the list as well.

Best R&B songs of 2023
Wizkid held a spot on the top 10 best R&B songs of 2023 released by Spotify. It ranked the singer with his collaboration with Ayra Starr 2 Sugar off his More Love Less Ego album number seven on the chart. Tyla’s Water was however the highest-ranked African song on the list as it came in at number two on the list.

Best Hip Hop songs of 2023
Odumodublvck’s Declan Rice was ranked number two on the Best Global Hip Hop Songs of 2023 chart for Spotify. This was the highest-ranked song by an African artist on the chart. This is a huge testament to how far Hip Hop in Africa has come.
