After over 14 hours of delay at Al Abraq International Airport, the Nigerian football team, the Super Eagles, was finally cleared by the Libyan government to return home.
According to reports by sports journalist Adepoju Tobi Samuel, also known as OgaNlaMedia, the Libyan authorities initially withheld clearance and aviation fuel from the Super Eagles’ chartered flight, operated by ValueJet Airline.
The situation was reportedly resolved after pressure from multiple parties, with Libyan officials eventually granting permission for the flight.
The Libyan government initially proposed a stop in Benghazi, but the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) insisted on a direct flight to Nigeria.
Sports enthusiast Pooja Media confirmed via social media platform X that the players were finally able to board the flight.
Super Eagles player Bruno Onyemaechi also expressed relief in a light-hearted post, stating his determination to distance himself from future interactions with Libya.
