The Federal Government has officially adopted the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, Ogun State, as a Federal University, following approval by President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Presidency expressed gratitude to the Ogun State Government for inviting the Federal Government to take over one of its key educational institutions. President Tinubu highlighted that the transition honours prominent education advocates such as Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Dr Tai Solarin, acknowledging their contributions to education in Nigeria.

The President also credited the Awujale of Ijebuland for his efforts in preventing the university’s closure in 2012. He described the takeover as a strategic move to strengthen teacher education and improve instructional quality nationwide.

Established in 2005, TASUED was Nigeria’s first specialised university of education. With its new federal status, it becomes the first federally owned tertiary institution in Ogun East senatorial district. The transition requires minimal federal investment due to its existing infrastructure.

TASUED now joins Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education in Owerri and Adeyemi Federal University of Education in Ondo as one of three federally owned education universities in Nigeria.
