  1. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has confirmed another collapse of the national power grid, affecting various regions across the country.

The disruption, described as a “partial disturbance,” occurred at approximately 1:52 PM on November 5, 2024, due to a series of line and generator trips that destabilised the grid.

However, TCN reported that some sections of the grid remained unaffected.

Efforts are underway to restore electricity, with power to Abuja already reinstated at 2:49 PM and a gradual restoration process ongoing for other regions.

TCN apologised for the inconvenience caused to customers.

Nigeria has faced multiple grid collapses this year, the first occurring in February, which led to a complete shutdown by 1 PM.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, highlighted the poor state of Nigeria’s power infrastructure as a major cause and advocated for regional or state power grids to enhance stability, a move supported by the 2023 Electricity Act.

Following recurring outages, the House of Representatives has tasked its Committee on Power to investigate the causes and report back on potential solutions.
