In a recent interview, Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter and performer Tems gave fans an insight into her music journey, her style of music and what she sees competition as.
Following the release and the wide acceptance of her first single in over two years, Tems took fans on a music journey, shedding insights into how she sees her music, how she met Wizkid and what she looks forward to in the future.
The interview was with the popular American radio station Hot 97, and here are the major highlights from the interview:
Tems revealed how she met Wizkid through her music. She revealed that she was a known artist following the release of songs off her first EP, but one song that really captured the attention of fans in Nigeria and across Africa was the hit single titled Try Me. Fans were not the only people mesmerized by her vocal abilities and skills on the song; she also captured the attention of Wizkid with the single, and it led to their collaboration on one of the biggest songs in the history of African music, Essence.
Tems cleared the air on her style of music, and she revealed that many often view all songs out of Africa as Afrobeats, and this is actually not so, as the type of music she creates is rnb. She revealed that she had put down the genre as RnB in her first project released. She believes that this way of viewing African music is bound to change in the future as people will eventually understand the type and style of music every artist from Africa puts out.
