President Bola Tinubu has expressed Nigeria’s readiness to represent Africa as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

Speaking at the 19th G20 Leaders Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Monday, he called for two permanent seats to be allocated to Africa, reflecting global diversity and equity.

“The Security Council should expand its categories to better reflect the world’s diversity. Africa deserves priority in this process,” Tinubu stated in a release by his adviser, Bayo Onanuga.

He emphasised Nigeria’s willingness to serve in this capacity.

Tinubu also endorsed Brazil’s Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty initiative, which he described as a significant step toward eradicating global hunger and poverty.

He highlighted the need for multilateral institutions to address imbalances in global governance, taxation, and trade, which disproportionately affect developing nations.

Reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to sustainable development, Tinubu stressed his administration’s alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals focused on ending poverty and hunger.
