President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed into law two bills establishing the Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies in Iragbiji, Osun State, and the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Announcing the development on Thursday, Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga highlighted Tinubu’s commitment to expanding Nigeria’s higher education landscape. According to the President, the newly established universities will not only cater to the country’s growing educational demands but also foster research, innovation, and economic growth.

Tinubu further emphasised that the institutions would serve as training hubs for professionals in agriculture, science, and technology, strengthening Nigeria’s position in the global economy.

With these additions, Nigeria now has 63 federal universities, alongside 63 state-owned and 149 private universities, according to the National Universities Commission (NUC).
