President Bola Tinubu has defended his decision to remove the fuel subsidy, saying “it was necessary” to secure Nigeria’s future.

He made this known during a meeting with stakeholders at the Government House in Enugu on Saturday.

Tinubu acknowledged the hardship caused by the removal, which led to a sharp increase in fuel prices, but he said the move was important to prevent Nigeria from running out of resources for future generations.

“You can’t spend the future of unborn children today. I know people are upset and may criticise me, but I asked for this job, and I am ready to face the challenges. I believe I can gather a good team to make Nigeria better,” Tinubu said.

The president also urged Nigerians to show more love for the country and stop speaking negatively about it.

“This is our country, and we must work hard to make it better. Stop saying bad things about Nigeria. I’m proud of Nigeria, and you should be too,” he said.

During his visit, Tinubu opened several projects, including the Enugu International Conference Centre and a modern security centre with advanced surveillance equipment.

Governor Peter Mbah and other dignitaries were present at the event.
