President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed that his administration’s economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies, are intended to secure a prosperous future for Nigerian youths.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Planning Committee for the National Youth Conference in Abuja, Tinubu emphasised that young people, who make up over 60% of the population, remain central to his policies.
“Every decision I have taken is about you and your future. When we removed the fuel subsidy, it was to protect your future and clear the path for prosperity,” Tinubu said in a statement released by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
He assured the 44-member committee that their recommendations for the upcoming conference would be implemented, urging them to critically assess national issues and provide candid solutions.
The President highlighted that economic reforms were already yielding results, including stabilizing the exchange rate, attracting investors, and reducing the prices of essential goods. He pledged to continue removing obstacles hindering youth development.
Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, commended Tinubu for prioritising youth empowerment, citing initiatives like the student loan scheme and infrastructural projects.
Samson Itodo, a committee member, outlined key focus areas for the conference, including governance, economic transformation, Artificial Intelligence, climate change, and security. The framework will feature virtual consultations, regional town halls, and an Abuja summit.
