President Bola Tinubu has ordered a reduction in the number of vehicles in the official convoys of ministers and heads of federal departments and agencies as part of his administration’s cost reduction measures.
In a statement released on Thursday, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga announced that the convoys would now be restricted to a maximum of three vehicles.
The directive is part of efforts to reduce government expenditure and promote efficiency.
The President also instructed that all ministers, ministers of state, and heads of agencies are to have no more than five security personnel attached to them.
According to the directive, the security team should comprise four police officers and one Department of State Services (DSS) officer.
“No additional security personnel will be assigned,” Onanuga added.
Tinubu has tasked the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, to engage with the military, paramilitary, and other security agencies to identify an appropriate reduction in the deployment of vehicles and security personnel.
“All affected officials are expected to comply with these new measures immediately, underscoring the urgency and seriousness of these changes,” Onanuga stated.
The President’s new directive follows earlier decisions in January to cut down the size of his entourage on both foreign and local trips.
For foreign trips, Tinubu reduced his entourage from 50 to 20 officials, and for local trips, from 50 to 25 officials.
He similarly limited the entourage of Vice President Kashim Shettima to five officials on foreign trips and 15 for local trips.
