President Bola Tinubu has nominated Melvin Ayogu for a position on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) board and has asked the Senate to confirm his appointment. Additionally, he has recommended Nwakuche Ndidi as the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

These nominations, detailed in letters sent to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, were read during the Senate’s plenary session on Tuesday, according to a statement from Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

This development comes after an earlier round of CBN board nominations in February 2024, when the Senate confirmed four out of five nominees.

Urom Eke, initially nominated, declined the position due to a conflict of interest, leading Tinubu to replace him with Ruby Onwudiwe in March 2024. However, Onwudiwe’s nomination was reportedly withdrawn shortly after, following political concerns over her past support for Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

By nominating Ayogu, Tinubu continues to refine his administration’s financial leadership team, ensuring key regulatory institutions have the necessary oversight and direction.
