The United Nations has reiterated its dedication to tackling humanitarian challenges and fostering sustainable development in Nigeria.
According to Mohamed Fall, the UN’s Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, efforts are being intensified to support communities affected by insecurity, particularly in northern Nigeria. The organisation is focusing on food security, education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability—key pillars of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Recognising past difficulties in aid distribution, Fall assured that improved measures are in place to ensure resources reach the most vulnerable populations. He also stressed the importance of transitioning from short-term relief to long-term empowerment, enabling people to sustain themselves beyond immediate assistance.
Additionally, the UN is working alongside the Nigerian government to align development strategies with national priorities, addressing economic challenges while driving inclusive growth.
On environmental concerns, Fall noted that discussions are ongoing to extend restoration efforts beyond Ogoniland, as part of broader initiatives to address pollution in the Niger Delta.
As Nigeria navigates its path toward stability and development, the UN remains committed to supporting its progress through strategic partnerships and targeted interventions.
