A magistrate court in Abuja has issued an arrest warrant for blogger Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), over allegations of defaming gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.
The order was given after VDM failed to appear in court following a previous summons. His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, sought leniency, assuring the court that his client would attend, but the magistrate insisted on his arrest.
The case stems from claims made by VDM on social media, accusing Chinwo of financial misconduct linked to a past business dispute. Chinwo, through her legal team, has provided documents to disprove the allegations and is also pursuing a separate ₦1.1 billion lawsuit demanding a public apology and content retraction.
Meanwhile, VDM’s lawyer argues that the case is being turned into a media trial rather than a legal prosecution. The legal proceedings continue as the authorities move to enforce the court’s order.
