YABATECH Set to Become a University as Tinubu Gives Approval

President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) in Lagos to be converted into a university, according to the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa.

During a visit to the institution on Friday, Alausa stated that Tinubu did not hesitate to approve the change and is now waiting for the necessary formalities to be completed.

Highlighting YABATECH’s readiness for the transition, he noted that the school boasts over 200 PhD holders among its staff, reinforcing its capability to operate at a university level.

The Rector, Dr Ibrahim Abdul, welcomed the development, stating that YABATECH aims to be a leading institution in technical and vocational education, driving innovation and practical solutions for national development.

Additionally, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof Funso Afolabi, urged the government to provide support and resources to ensure the smooth transformation of the institution.
