Customers of Zenith Bank have expressed frustration on social media over difficulties with online banking transactions, following a scheduled maintenance period.
On Tuesday, users on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) reported challenges in making payments and using various banking features.
The discontent came after Zenith Bank had announced on Saturday that routine maintenance of its Information Technology infrastructure would take place between September 29 and October 1, from 12:01 AM to 5:00 AM.
However, customers noted that the maintenance did not start until Tuesday, leading to disruptions.
The bank reiterated in a follow-up message on Tuesday that its Mobile Banking App, USSD, Internet Banking, and Corporate Internet Banking platforms would be unavailable from 12:01 AM to 2:30 PM WAT due to ongoing maintenance.
Despite this, many users voiced their dissatisfaction over the timing of the maintenance, which occurred during a busy period when customers were expecting salary payments and needed access to banking services.
Consequently, users criticised the bank for not conducting the maintenance overnight to avoid inconveniencing customers during peak usage hours.
In response, Zenith Bank persuaded with customers that the maintenance was necessary to improve service quality and that efforts were in place to minimise service disruptions.
Nonetheless, customers continued to urge the bank to handle future maintenance during the night to prevent similar issues.
