The Okehi Local Government Area (LGA) of Kogi State has imposed a curfew following the state government’s ban on political rallies, as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan proceeded with her planned homecoming event despite warnings.

The curfew, announced on Tuesday by LGA Chairman Amoka Eneji, takes immediate effect and restricts movement in certain areas. Authorities warned that anyone found violating the directive would be arrested and prosecuted.

“Anyone found gathering or moving in restricted areas without permission will be arrested and charged to court,” he warned, stressing that the measure is necessary to maintain peace and security.

This development follows an earlier advisory from the Kogi State Police Command, urging Akpoti-Uduaghan to cancel her event over security concerns. The police cited intelligence reports suggesting that hoodlums planned to hijack the gathering and disrupt public order.

However, Akpoti-Uduaghan arrived in a white helicopter to a cheering crowd in Ihima, dismissing claims that her visit was a political rally.

“This is not a political rally or campaign. I am simply celebrating Sallah with my people,” she stated.

The senator also alleged political persecution, blaming Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello for any security breaches at the event.

Akpoti-Uduaghan has been in the spotlight recently, facing suspension from the Senate and an ongoing recall process. However, she maintains that her challenges are part of a political witch hunt following her sexual harassment allegations against Akpabio.
