In a bid to promote transparency and equal opportunity in recruitment, the Federal Government has mandated all federal tertiary institutions in Nigeria to publicly advertise any approved job openings.

The directive, issued by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, was announced on Wednesday in a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade. It requires all institutions granted recruitment waivers to publish available positions in at least one national newspaper, on their official websites, and in relevant academic or professional journals.

According to the Ministry, the move is part of broader efforts to eliminate opaque employment practices in Nigeria’s higher education sector and ensure a level playing field for all qualified applicants.

“This directive aims to ensure a transparent, open, and competitive recruitment process that offers equal opportunity to all eligible Nigerians,” the statement read.

The Ministry clarified that institutions were granted recruitment waivers based on verified manpower needs submitted to the Ministry for review. Institutions are also expected to forward any new staffing requests to the Committee on Waiver and Recruitment for proper evaluation.

Reaffirming its stance on accountability, the Ministry warned that non-compliance would attract appropriate sanctions.

“The Ministry has put in place adequate mechanisms to ensure compliance and will not hesitate to apply sanctions against any institution that fails to adhere to this directive,” it stated.

Folasade reiterated the Ministry’s commitment to fairness, adding that these measures reflect its dedication to upholding integrity across Nigeria’s higher education system.
