The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has assured that corps members who recently completed their service will receive arrears of the newly approved N77,000 allowance.

Speaking at the Batch A 2025 pre-mobilisation workshop in Abuja, Nafiu stated that payments would be made as soon as funds are released, adding that the government is committed to its promise and would not neglect corps members.

“Even those who just passed out will be paid once we get the necessary cash backing,” he confirmed. “There’s no need for panic; the government is responsive to the needs of its people.”

The new allowance began rolling out last month, nearly eight months after the signing of the new minimum wage bill by President Bola Tinubu.

Meanwhile, Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, called for urgent reforms of the NYSC scheme to align with modern realities.

“Since its establishment in 1973, our society has evolved. The NYSC must also adapt to better equip graduates for the current job market,” he said.

He emphasised the need for collaboration between government and stakeholders to make the scheme inclusive and forward-looking.

Also speaking at the event, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, through his representative, Abdullahi Suleiman, reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s continued support for the NYSC, pledging to help the scheme achieve its goals throughout the service year.
