Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 might not be available for viewing in Nigeria even under the umbrella of StarTimes.

According to media outlets, The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has put the possible broadcast of AFCON 2023 on StarTimes in doubt with the recent statement which reveals that the new broadcast approach might violate the code of conduct of the regulatory body for airing events and shows in Nigeria.

According to Sports Village Square the director general of NBC, Director-General, Charles Ebuebu has written to both CAF and the winners of the broadcasting rights for the 2023 edition of AFCON, New World TV to provide a better understanding of the terms concerning the distribution of rights in the country.

A spokesperson for NBC also revealed, “We are troubled that with four days until what we expect is one of the most eagerly awaited TV events of 2024, there is the possibility of no coverage for millions of football fans of the Super Eagles. There has been little coverage so far of build-up programming. To know that this may be as result of interests that ride rough shod over the interests of Nigerian broadcasters and fans is not something that the NBC is prepared to sit-back on”
