A covert operation by the Lagos State Police Command has exposed a cybercrime training centre, revealing a disturbing trend of criminals grooming young Nigerians into internet fraud.
Authorities arrested four key suspects running the illegal scheme in the Iju area of Lagos, along with six trainees, one of whom is just 12 years old, identifed as Minachi Udochukwu. The operation highlights how fraud syndicates exploit young recruits, luring them with promises of wealth while confiscating their illicit earnings.
The police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that the suspects were trafficked from Anambra State and subjected to rigorous training in online fraud. The underage victim was reportedly physically abused to force his cooperation. He has since been placed in protective custody, while the police intensify efforts to track down the mastermind behind the operation.
Lagos Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, described the discovery as part of a broader crackdown on cybercrime, urging parents to be vigilant about their children’s activities. He also called on victims of online fraud linked to the syndicate to report to the authorities for further investigation.
