The death of Henry Osemwenkhia, a Bolt driver in Benin City, has raised concerns after reports emerged that he was assaulted by four Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officers.
Osemwenkhia had filed a complaint at the New Etete Police Station on February 4, 2025, alleging that NSCDC personnel and others attacked him following an altercation at De Kaso Hotel.
He was issued a medical report for treatment but was later found dead in his home while awaiting the results of a scan.
Following his death, the Edo State Police Command confirmed the arrest of the four NSCDC officers, stating that investigations were ongoing to uncover the full circumstances.
The command assured the public that justice would be served.
Reacting to the incident, Bolt Nigeria extended condolences to Osemwenkhia’s family, reiterating its stance against violence.
The company clarified that the incident did not occur during an active trip on its platform but emphasised its commitment to driver safety.
Bolt expressed confidence in the police investigation and pledged to support authorities in ensuring accountability.
