President Bola Tinubu recently hosted a delegation of Catholic Bishops at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, acknowledging their concerns about governance while reaffirming his commitment to addressing Nigeria’s pressing issues.

Leading the delegation was Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, accompanied by Bishop Matthew Kukah and Cardinal John Onaiyekan. Their visit follows public remarks by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference, which expressed worries over economic hardship, insecurity, and corruption, calling for urgent government action.

In response, the Presidency assured that significant progress is being made. Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga highlighted improvements in security, claiming a reduction in criminal activities and the rescue of many victims. He also pointed to economic measures aimed at stabilising the nation’s financial outlook.

While acknowledging ongoing challenges, Tinubu’s administration stressed its appreciation for the bishops’ advocacy, describing their input as valuable to national unity and development.
