The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a warning to motorists, especially commercial drivers, against reckless driving and speeding.
The agency’s spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, noted that LASTMA has intensified road safety awareness efforts amid the busy “ember months” period.
Taofiq highlighted this campaign following an accident involving a suspected drunk driver on the Third Mainland Bridge.
According to reports, the driver, who was behind the wheel of a Toyota Camry, suffered brake failure and crashed into railings.
LASTMA officers discovered an empty beer bottle inside the car and seven unopened bottles in the trunk, suggesting that alcohol was involved.
“This driver was overtaking recklessly before the accident. We urge all drivers to avoid drinking and driving,” Taofiq said.
He added that LASTMA’s safety campaign includes visits to garages across Lagos, with recent stops at Ojota, Ikorodu, and Ketu, and upcoming sessions planned for Mile 2, Obalende, and Lekki-Ajah.
This initiative is part of a broader effort led by LASTMA Chairman Bakara Olalekan-Oki to promote road safety among Lagos drivers.
